Our Rationale

Grendon Underwood School recognises that all children, regardless of background, should have equal access to a curriculum which will enable them to reach their potential. The pupil premium is a Government initiative that targets extra money at pupils who are “looked after”, from services families, or who qualify for and have registered for free school meals at any time in the past six years.   The funding allocation is based directly on the number of these pupils in each school.  The government believes that the pupil premium, which is in addition to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between these children and their peers by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most.

Schools are able to decide how best to spend the funding and are accountable for this.

Provision

In order to meet the above requirements, the Governing Body at Grendon Underwood School will ensure that provision is made which secures the teaching and learning opportunities that meet the needs of all pupils, and is focused on “diminishing the difference” for the pupil premium children.  As part of the additional provision made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, the Governors of the school will ensure that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed through termly pupil progress meetings.
