Homework

Children should read aloud to a parent or carer, who can then sign their daily reading records, every day. Children cannot sign the reading records themselves. We would suggest hearing your children read a short section of their book each day, before letting them continue reading independently. Regular reading will help develop their fluency and comprehension skills. We also aim to hear every child read aloud once a week in class, either through whole class guided reading or on a 1:1 basis during daily quiet reading time.

Children should also practice their times tables for a minimum of 10 minutes a day, 5 days a week. They all have access to Times Tables Rockstars which is a great resource.

Year 4’s Big 6

These books have been carefully selected as a range of excellent texts that you will enjoy sharing with your child at home.

PE

Year 4 have PE lessons on Wednesdays and Fridays. They will need to come to school in their PE kit on those days. They will be taught outside whenever possible so please make sure they are kitted out correctly and sensibly!

Swimming lessons will be on Wednesdays, starting after Easter. Children will develop swimming skills and water safety.

Forest School

Year 4 do not have forest school this year but have the opportunity to attend forest school club in Term 1
