Autumn Term Timetable
Our termly topic information can be found in our Class News posts.
Children should read aloud to a parent or carer, who can then sign their daily reading records, every day. Children cannot sign the reading records themselves. We would suggest hearing your children read a short section of their book each day, before letting them continue reading independently. Regular reading will help develop their fluency and comprehension skills. We also aim to hear every child read aloud once a week in class, either through whole class guided reading or on a 1:1 basis during daily quiet reading time.
Homework will be set on a Thursday and is due in the following Wednesday. It will be a piece of work linked to our maths, English or topic work. It will be set on Google Classroom, and children will need to submit their work on Google Classroom for us to mark.
Children should spend about 30 minutes on their weekly homework task. This should be actual time spent working, not sharpening their pencil! If they have worked hard for 30 minutes and have done their best, but not finished, that is absolutely fine; they can stop. Children all work at a different pace. Please do not battle with your child over homework, if you are having problems come and see me and I’ll see what I can do to help.
Children should also practise their times tables every week, preferably more than once! They all have access to Times Tables Rockstars which is a great resource.
Half termly tasks:
This year, pupils will be given a half termly spelling list. This will consist of words from the Y3/4 national curriculum spelling list. It is expected that children will practise these regularly at home to learn them, alongside them being practised in school. These will then be assessed in a dictation at the end of each half term.
Please find a copy of the half termly spelling lists below along with suggested methods of practice.
Year 4 will have their PE lesson on a Friday. They will need to come to school in their PE kit on that day. They will be taught outside whenever possible so please make sure they are kitted out sensibly!
Trainers need to be in school every day as we will be doing other exercise throughout the week, such as the daily mile.
Forest School and Art
On a Wednesday afternoon, year 4 will split into two groups, Group 1 and Group 2. Half of the class will go to Forest School and the other half will go to the Art Room for an art lesson. They will then alternate each week. Please ensure your child has their clothes for Forest School with them in school when it is their turn.
