We have PE on a Monday and Thursday so please come to school wearing PE kit.

We provide milk and fruit every day but if you wish to provide your own healthy snack that is fine. Please note we are a nut-free school.

Please bring a water bottle every day.

Reading

In Autumn term in Reception, your children will come home with a RWI letter formation and rhyme book so you can follow the order and the letter teaching formation and rhymes. Once they have learned a few sounds they will bring home some Sound Blending books. These follow the letters they are being taught in school and introduces them to word blending (decoding/reading). When they are ready, they move onto paper ditties – this moves from sound blending to simple sentences and red words (words that cannot be decoded). After this they move onto the RWI Storybook scheme.

Your child will come home with x3 reading books a week. They will be changed every Thursday. 1 = their RWI Phonics Storybook which they would have spent the week learning to read. This helps the children with their reading FLUENCY. 2 = a DECODABLE RWI Phonics book. These match and mirror the storybook they have been learning in their phonics lesson. This is unknown to them so they need to work hard on their decoding skills. 3 = a library book. Reading for pleasure is something really special and the children are encouraged to choose ANY book they wish from the library.

Reading and Sharing Books

Please spend some time reading with your child and sharing books every day, ideally for at least 15 minutes each day. Below is a link to the Oxford Reading Tree free ebook library where you can find many online books for your child to read.
